I know the obvious; they are smaller and less powerful. But some modern laptops challenge desktops in performance. How are laptops so much more efficient?

They stress every part to their limit to work together with their own consumption. The PSU’s for example, provide literally the exact wattage that is needed for the rest of the system to run, PC’s are basically ‘build upon a barebone’ and can range from large PSU’s to power cheap parts, or power hungry parts made that can never be fit into a laptop.
Laptops cannot be overclocked for example, since it’d consume too much power and overheat the motherboard at an unhealthy rate, that’s just how it is, laptops were made to be as powerful as they can, PC’s can continue to grow.
Laptops are more efficient for several reasons. Most laptops use integrated graphics which, though less powerful, use less powerful , cut down on weight and power consumption. They also use less powerful chips to cut down on heat and increase battery life. Less power means less energy use and less heat, which in turn cuts down on fan speed needed to cool it
They generally, as far as performance goes, are the same thing. You may be comparing a laptop to an outdated desktop or a desktop with a lot of junk running in the RAM. If they have the same parts, they should be comparable.
Also, laptops are NOT less powerful. It all depends on what’s under the hood. Newer computers are generally going to perform better than older ones, regardless of desktop/laptop designation.
Laptops are more efficient then desktops because they are easily movable you can take them anywhere with just adapter or charger and the main thing is its operating system. Mostly laptops operating system is better than desktops that’s why they are more efficient.
well i don’t think so. see i switched from laptop to desktop last year and it’s better to work with:
Less Eye strain cuz it’s more than 60 cms. away from my eyes
Wider screen
Less “carefulness”
Longer keyboard…..
I don’t see why u think laptops are better
they’re just portable!
