hi noodles
i suppose the cheapest laptop at the moment is the asus ecc pc which is £199 however its limited to just a 5gb solid state hard drive, great for travelling but no good for general use
for a good all purpose laptop then the MESH MSI VR601 T2 (http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.asp… a class laptop and has some class hardware aswell
the processor comes in the shape of the Intel® Core™ Duo T2330 Dual Core Processor (1.6GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB),a good all round cpu, with some excellent power, and the memory is supplied in the shape of a 2GB DDR2 667MHz Memory (2x1GB),this is the standard offering in most of todays laptops and is plenty for most everyday tasks
the graphics card is the 128MB Intel GMA X3100 Integrated Graphics, this is the first of intels direct x 10 intergrated chips and is pretty good for a onboard solution, and can play some games at lower resolutions
the 250GB Serial ATA Hard Drive is quite big for a laptop and the DVD Super Format Dual Layer DVD Writer +R/-R/RW/RAM has plenty of formats including the much neglected dvd-ram format
the 15.4″ WXGA TFT display is also a standard offering however its picture quality is good, however if you want a 17″ display then the MESH MSI ER710 (http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.asp… a better choice, and this also uses the AMD Athlon 64 X2 TK53 Dual Core Mobile Processor ,a good and powerful laptop processor, this also uses the 128MB ATI Mobile Radeon Xpress 1270 Integrated Graphics, still not brilliant but better than the intel onboard solution
both these laptops have some sterling qualities and are powerful in their own rights, however if you dont want to play games then you can make some good savings when buying a laptop,as the price of laptops with powerful graphics adapter are much higher then laptops with intergrated solutions
also try http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/,this company stock surplus laptops and desktop p.c,s and have some excellent “new” and “used” laptops, they also come with some decent warrantys
any problems let me know
good luck noodles !
What I would do is check DELL and MESH websites before you buy your Laptop, or you could also have a look at the PC WORLD website, to see if they have anything in that might suit you …But you only get what you are paying for, cheap is not the answer, but Good Luck with your choice
Acer sometimes has good deals for laptops…Dell usually gives you the most bang for your buck.
Check all the big names on their websites…they all are giving some nice discounts and rebates…along with free shipping..but you will have to shop around.
Cheap is never the best.
Shop for what you need, you need room to grow.
