Hi,
I’ve got a Toshiba Satellite Pro A210. I am absolutely happy with it. It fulfils all your requirements. I live in England and paid £420 for it (brand new). It has a 2GB memory (expandable) and is extremely fat compared to my Compaq laptop I had before this one. I don’t use the battery, I always connect to the mains, so I’m not sure how good the battery is. It plays DVDs and CD brilliant. I think it weighs about 2.5 kg. Hope that’s light enough for you. It has USB ports.
I hope that helps. As I said, I would not want any other laptop anymore.
yeah, the Asus Eee products are pretty good if your not looking for a large screen, or anything too fancy. they’re around 400-600 dollars, thereabout. Most of them have decent RAM, and 2-4 gig hard drive. Or the Dell Inspirion is very nice too.
If you’re looking for a nice, decent product, to browse the internet and save some picture, word documents, etc., and not performing large projects or playing very graphically intense games or programs, I’d look for the Dell Inspirion 700m

40gig hard drive, 2gig RAM
This is the one I’m hoping to get btw
All companies make cheap, good laptops. What do you want it to do? How long do you need the battery to last? Will you be using it on the move or mostly at home? How big a screen do you want. Usually the smaller the screen, the higher the price.
There are a lot of good cheap laptops. DELL, HP, Toshiba, and Gateway make the best. Check it out, I don’t know about ASUS, but those 4 I mentioned above are good. Go to Best Buy, and check the laptops out first hand, or go to their websites.
HP 520 business lappy quite a good choice. Under $1000, very tough.
Try the Asus Eee PC 1000H. It’s on newegg.com for $549.
