I own a Gateway, have had some problems with it not connecting via Linux. It was suggested to me that Gateway computers use lower quality components and their drivers might be the issue. Being that it’s about time for a new laptop, I’d like to buy a better one this time. So which are the better laptops with which I’m unlikely to run into this sort of issue?

By good laptops, I mean those with at least 2 GB of RAM, reasonably good battery life, at least 320 GB Hard disk, and Intel Core 2 Duo processor etc.
I am sick of using Windows Vista on my current HP machine. It Home edition is not compatible with many softwares e.g., with SAS Enterprise Guide – besides it is really slow. I hate it!

I am going to college soon and I want a PC laptop. I’ve been looking at dells lately, because they have a slot load drive with the blu-ray player. I’ve configured their laptops countless time and have finally decided that the laptop I would want is about 1,100, but what I’m asking is if laptop brands have any differences themselves. So for example if a dell and a Sony vaio had the same exact specs would there be any difference between them?

I heard that Toshiba laptops have the best performance and they are the most reliable. If so, which model of Toshiba is the best?
Satellite or Tecra?
I heard that HP/Compaq Sucks
IBM is great but expensive
Dell has problems
Is this all true?
Is Toshiba the best?

I know that you can draw pictures on some screens with a stylus, but can someone tell me which laptops offer that feature? I’d like one so that I can use it to hand-write notes and draw diagrams without having to try and use the mouse.
Failing drawing on a screen, are there laptops where you can write on a touch-pad with a stylus?
Thanks all!

Of course, I’m not expecting laptops that can play crysis to be cheap, but which ones can, and which are the cheapest of those?
