I am going to go off to college next fall term and I am looking for a good laptop. I am looking for one that would be excellent for school work and powerful enough to play high end, new gaming. I am just looking for a good laptop company or just a model.

My father figure wants to purchase a new computer for himself and hardly knows anything about computers. Since he is fairly new and said so himself that he isn’t interested in doing any complicated tasks (just general things like surfing the net, shopping online, youtube, etc.) what kind of company makes a better laptop for newbies? Intel, or compaq?

dell makes excellent laptops and they are the only company I know of that offers a warranty with accidental damage and lo jack added to a 4 year warranty.

I’ve heard cell phone companies have come out with cards for laptops for surfn’ the net. Any opinions on which company has the best plans and largest coverage area?

are there any of those laptops have a web cam. do they even have a good feel to it. please tell me because im searching to buy a laptop and i only have about 500 dollars. i can’t really afford anything over that. please tell me.

I want a pretty stripped down machine. I don’t want any extras. Are there any companies that sell laptops like this?
Also, do any companies include the operating system disk separately? For example, if I need to format, I don’t want all of the preinstalled garbage on the clean install. Thanks.
