Red X Saying "Your Computer is Infected" – Virus/Spyware – How to Remove it?

Does someone know how to remove this virus and can explain it in a simple way?
I asked in some posting boards and they referred me to other posts with huge sets of very technical instructions and its overwhelming.
I am looking for someone that can explain without 300 steps and in plain English what processes, keys and files need to be change or removed to get rid of this. I have a Hijackthis log but cannot identify the parts that need to be cleaned up in it.

Getting rid of this one is a problem because it is memory resident so it can’t be deleted and it likes to change names which is why your hijackthis log could be important. Some variants also shut down access to the task manager so you can’t kill the process and on top of that some variants won’t allow spyware or anti-virus software to run.
If you already have a spyware scanner like AdAware installed then reboot your system into safe mode (hit F8 while rebooting before windows starts to load and choose safe mode). Now you should be able to run a scan and get it cleaned out.
If you don’t have a scanner installed then email me your hijackthis log and we’ll see what we can do from there.
download norton antivirus or go to http://www.downloads.com and download a free antivirus program. Then perform a system scan and remove the virus.
Go to download.com
Download a copy of Spybot Search & Destroy AND a copy of Lavasoft Ad-Aware.
Install both programs.
Run a spyware check with both programs.
