You need to find a laptop that suits your needs.
Screen size and resolution, hard drive size, processor speed, CD/DVD drive, and wireless networking are all options you need to consider, along with price.
Essentially, for web surfing, email, and schoolwork (word processing and spreadsheets), just about any new laptop will suit your needs, but you should compare the benefits and drawbacks of each one in regards to each other and their price.
all laptops suck, unless your willing to pay a lot of money

look for laptop that suit u very well. all laptop has there own uniqu things. let say u like to share alot of ur stuff with friends, and family , i reconemdn find a laptop that has bluetooth and cd burner. it also all depend on how much u want to spend.
Big money? > Sony vaio
Medium Money? > Toshiba
Avarage money? > Dell
Small Money? > Acer < Sucks
All about specifications
Well, anything that’s a "budget buy" now will be a dinosaur in 3 years, if it’s not already.
I personally would opt for a MINIMUM 1GB RAM, preferably 2GB RAM if you can afford it. (Vista NEEDS 1GB, which means it’s already maxed out).
At least and 80GB harddrive, if not a 120-160GB. The reason is, everything from software, drivers and games is increasing the minimum requirements, and today’s computers will struggle to run next year’s games and programs. And don’t think you can just sell it next year and upgrade…you will lose 3/4 of your money, just like with a car.
Check with ACER, they have all the bells and whistles of HP and Sony, but 25% cheaper.
apple has the best help. i have 2 apple laptops one i got a almost a year ago its a macbook pro. i had a pc a couple years back but they were too much trouble. i highly recomend macs.
A name brand….I have had about 6 laptops and like my Asus the best (Dell the worst)
Good battery life if you are taking it to college etc
Most laptops have dvd burners/good size hard drive/ lots of ram / lots of usb etc etc…. the biggest differences are how they handle graphics and screen quality.
Depending on what you use it for, you might want to consider getting one with a dedicated video card rather than one that uses shared ram.
There are some really ordinary screens around too…dull and washed out……look at the differences in store. You are going to spend a lot of time looking at that screen, so it makes a big difference.
Thats about it – obviously look at warranty period. Dont buy factory refurbished, buy new.
Best of luck.
Buy a Mac and run student/teacher MS Office on it for school work. Mac’s are more stable, more secure (not vulnerable to computer viruses), more reliable, and much, much faster.
toshiba, myself i don’t like laptops
stck to acer
cheep and good looking
you don’t a super computer don’t you
I prefer windows over mac. it has all the office programs that you’ll need for school plus it’s compatible with most other programs you’ll be interested in i.e. music, aim. mac’s are set up differently and it seems to me that they only work well with bussiness/school programs. and if you’re gonna get a windows, you should look into a dell inspiron, if you’re a bussiness major, a dell latitude. and make sure to get office 2007 for student so that you’ll have word, excell, ect.
most important thing is you have to know what you want to do with the computer and look for the features you are going to use. never buy the computer which has loads of features which you are not going to use.
important things you have to know about computers are:
processor–duo core Pentium is great rite now.
RAM if 2048MB is good because vista requires a lot of memory.
Hard disk–depends from 80GB—to whatever is available or you want the space.
rest is standard, it will have a modem, Ethernet, USB ports, DVD ROM, DVD writer. i guess duo core comes with wireless device that can connect to Internet.
finally it all depends on how much you want to spend.
shop around.
