If I let someone help remove a virus from my computer, is my privacy compromised?

I’m thinking of asking someone with a lot of expertise regarding computers to help me remove a malware program from my laptop. My only concern is whether or not when they do it they could see all of the information on there, such web history. Even if those files are erased I know there are ways to see them.

If you have malware on your computer you may not need help from another person. Go to http://malwarebytes.org and download the malwarebytes software. After you have downloaded it download any upgrades it might need and then run a scan.
It should take care of the malware you have in your system.
This is a free program and is fairly well known.
You can remove the program yourself. Go to control panel, add and remove programs, then choose the program you want to remove. good luck.
Don’t listen to her. Malware programs can’t be removed from the add/remove programs menu.
They can see it, so there is definitely a risk of an invasion of privacy. The only thing I can recommend is to take it to an actual professional instead and pay to have it done. Any computer place, as well as Staples and Future Shop will do it. They see so many computers a day that they could care less about your private data.
yes it is perfectly possible to see that kind of stuff and recover deleted files….but then, anyone you ask should be totally trustworthy and they should not compromise your privacy. I’ve seen a lot of confidential stuff but I am able to keep things quiet. If you’re that worried, my advice would be to find someone more trustworthy
There are ways to ‘clone’ the entire drive, and dissect it at leisure, so the ultimate answer to your opening Q is: trust no one.
