How does thunderstorm affect laptops while the laptop is charging? Are the effects very obvious?

Is it a very clear and defined effect on laptops while charging during a thunderstorm? Meaning if the laptop was affected by the thunderstorm it will be broken to the point of unable to use? As opposed to not broken even after the thunderstorm and no damage was done to any of the laptop components. As opposed to no damage. Also can there be "minor" damages caused by thunderstorm or is it that all damages caused to laptop in thunderstorms are fatal rendering the laptops broken.

Thanks

electric service often flickers on and off during thunder or lightning storms. also current surges are not uncommon. the big killer is current surges. get a surge protector if you do this habitually. Belkin is the best. the small cube ones allow one outlet. buy the highest rating you can. Belkin guarantees no damage to electronics when using their surge protectors up to 10,000 dollars.
if the service flickers on and off it’s like quickly unplugging and pluggin back in the device quickly several times.

If your laptop is plugged in and there’s a power surge, and you’re not using a surge protector, then yes, you could damage or "break" it.

If it gets struck by lightning while charging or left out in the rain while charging, it will be damaged as well.

Other than that, I think you’re all set.

Sometimes the effects are not obvious. Power surges sure can screw up a laptop while it’s plugged into an outlet and charging. Many times on power surges you can fry motherboard components and not be able to physically see it.
