Only a very few airlines offer this service, and even then only on certain aircraft. More airlines are considering offering it, so it should become more common over the next few years.
The aircraft have an antenna that picks up and sends signals. Some communicate with stations on the ground. One newer system will communicate using satellites.
You can’t!!!
You have to disable your wireless.
I have flown all over the world.
That flight might have an intenet signal. Some airlines are testing out internet service onboard.
I doubt they were getting signals from the ground because you guys were so far up in the air.
They don’t, there used to be a internet service called Conexxion by Boeing that a few airlines offered such as Lufthansa and Singapore, but that was discontinued at the end of 2006, low demand and high cost being the major reasons. However, sometime in 2008, Alaska and American Airlines will offer wi-fi on many of their flights, and many more airlines plan on offering wi-fi internet by the end of 2008.
