How Do I Get My Two Laptops To Talk To Each Other?
I have two laptops – both acer. The first has a built in Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG and the second (an older machine) has a Belkin 802.11g wireless card plugged in. I suspect I don’t understand networks well enough but I have tried everything but I cannot get the two machines to network. In the control panel I can see a Wireless network connection that loops through a BTHomeHub-9543. This is my internet connection. I have created a new profile called HomeNetwork with an SSID called Study. The operating mode is device to device. At the moment I have not set up an security settings. My First laptop is called HomeLaptop1. I have done nothing with the second laptop which is simply called HomeLaptop2. Can anyone please tell me how I can get these two machines together. I have been driven mad with the Windows XP or my cards telling me that something else is interfering with them. Any help would be much appreciate.

You can try a data transfer.
wow ok. now the easy option.
like the above solution delete all the existing connections apart from the wireless one (on each machine)
now im not sure if you have installed the BT Wireless Assistant or not, but im going to assume you have.
Connect your computers to your wireless connection on your BT Homehub, the security key is on a gray label on the back. No on each of your machines right click on your “My Computer” icon, either on the desktop or your start menu, and choose properties.
click the computername tab. and click the change button next to where it says workgroup. Change the workgroup to anything you like, but they must match on both machines, this is the name of your network. now restart them both, and connect to your wireless network again, they should now be able to talk to each other.
why spend money on a laptop when you can get it for free? just go to this site and complete a few quick tasks and they’ll send you a sony vaio laptop at no charge!
OK! here we go!
I have a desk top pc and two laptops all communicating by wifi.
Here’s how to do it.
First, you should go to your start menu, then connect to, then show all connections. Delete any new ones you’ve made.
Now, exit. Turn on your wifi on both pc’s.
View available networks. You should see your own, for example it will just show a small square box instead of a network name. Connect on both pc’s. This is to ensure that the set up programme will recognise your wifi is on.
Now, back to start menu.
All programmes, accessories, communications, network set up wizzard. Follow the instructions. They will differ on both pc’s because one will be the computer which connects directly to the net, the other will be the one which connects through another computer.
You will possibly have to restart (sometimes it asks for restart, sometimes not. when you restart it’s done.
Sounds complicated, but just follow word for word. Any problems, make a careful note and email me!
Note: i am assuming both pc’s are xp, if not then you will have to make a disc for the second pc, but it’s all there in the instructions. Good luck!
