Keep in mind that a lot of the cheap laptops with good specs are refurbished (ie used and restored), which are said to not be as good for battery life. I’ve heard that Tiger Direct refurb laptops are good, though.

If you want absolutely the cheapest new laptop, then check out Nextag.com, Pricegrabber.com. You might also want to check out your local Office Depot or Circuit City. Their prices with rebates are very competitive to that online – and you don’t have to risk unseen shipping damage that can sometimes occur with buying online.
If you’re somewhat adventurous, you might try Ubid.com (http://www.ubid.com/computers/laptop-com… I bought a laptop from Ubid last year and discovered that my HP refurbished computer was actually a new discontinued one directly from HP.
Oh yeah, HP rules over Dell & Toshiba. Lenovo would be a close second.
