<description>Such viruses are called stealth virus .
Every 512byte part of a hard disk is called a sector , and there are many such sectors on an hard disk , which are given a specific sector id .

These viruses , remove that sector id from the hard disk . Because of this , even though the data is still there , the hard disk and the OS cannot read it , and our data gets lost .

If the info given by me is contradicting anybody&#039;s ideas , kindly let me know .
Good Luck</description>

<description>It&#039;s very possible. All the virus has to do is delete everything in the folders where your data is stored.

Although most virus writers aren&#039;t satisfied with just that, they destroy everything on the hard drive.</description>

<description>Possible but not likely. I&#039;m guessing that the data is still there, you just can&#039;t see it. Try this...

(If you have Win XP, turn System Restore off. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab.
Click to select the Turn off System Restore check box. Or, click to select the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box. Click OK.
Click Yes to confirm that you want to turn off System Restore.)

Download, (if you can&#039;t get on-line, have a friend download and copy to disc/flash for transfer) install, update and run full scans, in SAFE MODE*, with these programs...

http://www.malwarebytes.org
http://www.superantispyware.com
http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=Ad+Aware+Free+Anti+Malware&amp;tag=404&amp;searchtype=downloads Ad-Aware free

*** Important, when downloaded/updated disconnect from the internet ***

Then re-start.

(turn System Restore on. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab.
Click to clear the Turn off System Restore check box. Or, click the Turn on System Restore on all drives check box.
Click OK.)

If you can&#039;t run a scan, go into the scanner&#039;s folder and re-name the .exe file to something like &#039;MyFile.exe&#039; and try in safe mode again. Some malware prevent the execution of anti spy/mal/virus scans by blocking them by name.

You should consider getting a good Anti-Virus program.
Try one of these free ones...

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1/avira_antivir_personal__free_antivirus.html (Avria)

http://free.avg.com/download

***Never use more than one anti-virus program at any one time***

*Note: On start up (before Windows loads) keep tapping either F5 or F8 (be aware that some manufacturers use F8 for system recovery!) then use arrow keys to highlight &#039;Safe Mode with networking&#039; and hit Enter/Return, click on a user account, enter the password (if you don&#039;t know it, there probably isn&#039;t one so leave it blank) and hit Enter/Return.</description>

<description>Peple like to hear things plain and simple so here it is. Its what is known as a &quot;Mirror Trojan&quot;. This is a Trojan Virus that prevents almost all applications from running, or pretending they have been lost or removed. If you have a virus scanner that stil works. Run it. If not skip to this step. Start your computer over. As soon as the first screen pops up. Press:

For XP: Ctrl &amp; F11 (repeatedly)
For Vista: Ctrl &amp; F12 (Repeatedly)
For 2000, Mac, W7: Ctrl &amp; f8 (Repeatedly)

A Reset/ Restore, Boot sequence screen will appear. Choose the system restore (NOT RESET). Choose a date a couple of weeks prior to present date. Congrats Mirror Trojan deleted.</description>

<description>I doubt any one here has very many different laptops in order to compare them. We can only rate the laptops we&#039;re very familiar with. In my case, that&#039;s one. A Gateway T-1625. I love it and am very happy with it. But is it the best? I have no idea but seriously doubt it. I chose it because it had the features I wanted at the right price. There are many that are more powerful and have more features.

Your best bet is to go to a site that has the ratings from experienced people, such as PC World.

<description>Dell Inspiron Series - Basic laptops, that have somewhat of a tinny feel, they have somewhat of a high failure rating with DVD Drives.

HP Pavilion dv9800 - looks good, wide range of specifications from a 1.40 to 2.2 Ghz Processor, and from a Nvidia Geforce 7150 to a Geforce 8600 GS M

Dell XPS 1530 - great laptop from Dell, has a 2.4 Ghz Processor, 3 GB of RAM and a Geforce 8400 GS M in all models except for the most expensive version, which has a Geforce 8600 GS M

Mac Book Pro - lots of power and fun to use with a 2.4 to 2.6 Ghz Processor, 3 GB of RAM, Geforce 8600 GS M

Have a nice day

<description>You can get Avast Antivirus for free at www.avast.com
I also recommend Ad-Aware SE as an antispyware. www.lavasoft.com.

Hopefully those can fix your problem.</description>
