Cheap? They are called used.
Laptops are more expensive than desktops, they always have been. So while you can find new desktop systems for as little as $450, new laptops tend to run $700 and up.
Maybe check Gateway laptops, those are a bit less expensive than Toshiba, Lenovo/IBM, HP etc.
You can also consider refurbished laptops. The lowest-priced units at stores like Staples, Office Dept etc. are often refurbs. These are machines which were returned to the manufacturer due to some problem, but have been fixed and now have the same warranty as a new one.
Well, you said how much you DON’T want to spend… It’d be more useful if you told us what you DID want to spend.
Niceness is your opinion. The more you spend the better, the less the worse. We can show you the best laptop you can get for whatever price you want.
Also, if you said what function you want it to serve it would help. I’ll come back later and update if you add those things.
Dell would be a ripoff parts and service wise. HP is much better in those areas. Apple is also good although a little hippy in my opinion.
A good company to consider is Carbonfrost Systems. I can speak from experience when I say they have the best warranty and service. They will literally build it to whatever you want while keeping the price low. They have computers in all price ranges so you should be able to find one.
They are launching their laptops in couple of weeks, and their computers are actually better than all of those specs for the computers you would see in Dell, HP, Acer etc and is cheaper while thier parts are all name brand parts. Just a little info for you.
They will have laptops in all price ranges with the best parts and service so you shouldn’t have a problem finding one that suits you the besthttp://www.carbonfrost.com/

Here I did a search and got the products below $600. They have dual core processors, Vista Premium. I think that is the best you can get for the price.http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?leve…http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Toshiba-S…
They meet you requirements.
Good Luck
